In one of the highly-anticipated news which kept fans of videogames biting their nails, Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation Sony has confirmed that PlayStation 5 is indeed coming. This was confirmed by Shawn Layden, who serves as the President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America (SIEA) and the Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios. This latest PlayStation 5 news is being celebrated by game-enthusiasts across the globe.
For a long while, it was speculated that the multi-million dollar company might shift from the general console release model and will rather have regular hardware updates, much like what we see in the case of smartphones. Fans have also been waiting for the mid-generation update of the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro.
It is also being speculated that the PlayStation 5 release date will not be anytime soon as we will not get to see the game before next year in 2018. And if this is true, then we can expect the announcement of the gaming console later this year. There are various big events coming up, where we can expect the Japanese company to unveil the gaming console. Among them, the two biggest events are Tokyo Game Show, which is slated to take place in September 2017 and PlayStation Experience, which will take place in December 2017.
Usually, new consoles are announced during E3 in June or at special events such as Nintendo Switch last year. The latest PlayStation 5 news also suggested strongly that it would be announced during E3, but unfortunately, this was not the case, as no official announcements were made about the upcoming gaming console during E3. Rather, some information regarding the performance and reception of PlayStation 4 was shared by the developers. It was claimed that PlayStation 4 had sold more than 60 million copies, thereby becoming one of the most successful gaming consoles of all time.
Seeing the popularity of PlayStation 4, we can definitely expect that PlayStation 5 will be a better version of the gaming console.
Meanwhile, Damian Thong, Macquarie Capital Securities analyst has said that the upcoming gaming console from PlayStation will be released in the second half of 2018.
It is quite remarkable that the gaming console is still going strong after more than two decades. It was first introduced on December 3, 1994. The PlayStation Network is a massive online service which has more than 110 million global users. It consists of the PlayStation Store, a subscription-based online service, called PlayStation Plus, a social gaming networking service known as PlayStation Home and an online virtual market. PlayStation Home in itself has more than 41 million users globally.
Another rumor which is doing the rounds is that PlayStation 5 will embrace the 8K resolution technology. It is being believed that the late release will help the developers put in more interesting features into the gaming console. So, at least fans can hope for the fact that the late release will be worth the wait.
